The stork is predominantly white with black flight-feathers and a red conical bill. It nests in open farmland and wetlands, constructing bulky stick nests that stand out in trees or on buildings. Outside the breeding season, it searches for food in grasslands and agricultural regions. In flight, it extends its neck and legs, showcasing strong wingbeats alternated with glides. The bird can also soar using thermals and migrates in flocks during daylight hours, frequently seen flying high above.
