The Bohemian Waxwing is a plump bird with smooth plumage, a sleek crest, and distinctive white and yellow wing markings. Its mostly clean gray body features a rusty wash on the face and a rich rufous undertail. These birds breed in open coniferous forests at high latitudes across the Northern Hemisphere and migrate south based on fruit availability, sometimes forming large flocks. They are commonly seen feeding on fruiting trees like crabapples and mountain ashes. Their ringing trills can be heard as they fly overhead. Compared to the Cedar Waxwing in North America and Japanese Waxwing in Asia, the Bohemian Waxwing is larger and grayer, with a unique wing pattern and lacking yellow on the belly.
