Small chubby grey bird typically located near unpolluted rivers and streams, predominantly close to moving water. Its prominent bright white "bib" adorns most of its habitat, with a rare dark brown "dark morph" seen in certain Asian areas. Primarily inhabits foothills and uplands, occasionally found in flatlands or coastal plains near water sources. Often spotted alone, discreetly foraging among rocks and pools; proficient swimmer and diver. Displays persistent bobbing when stationary, agile low-flight over water with distinct wing sounds. Boasts a loud, repetitive thrush-like song that resonates above the river''s rush, accompanied by a dry “tzitzit” call.
