Green Sandpiper
Tringa ochropus

This sandpiper features dark brown plumage and a snowy white belly. In flight, it displays a black upper body with a strikingly contrasting white rump. It intermittently bobs its tail when nervous, distinguishing it from the Common Sandpiper. Typically ascending sharply when startled, it swiftly maneuvers with deep wingbeats, exhibiting a swaying flight pattern reminiscent of a swallow. Breeding habitats include clearings and marshes within damp forests and woodlands, while migratory populations frequent freshwater and brackish wetlands, particularly muddy lake shores and small ponds. These birds are commonly observed alone or in small clusters, typically not intermingling with other species.
