Redshank

Tringa totanus

1 Photos

This stout brown wader boasts striking red legs. Contrasted with the sleeker Spotted Redshank in youth and non-breeding attire, it displays a more robust build. Typically cautious, it emits shrill whistles to caution fellow birds. When anxious, it bobs its tail before revealing flashy white wing edges and a white rump patch in flight. Foraging in marshy shallows, it probes and pecks with its bill. It thrives in both freshwater and coastal wetlands while nesting near water in moorland regions.
