Meadow Pipit
Anthus pratensis
2 Photos
Commonly found in open grassy environments like moorland, bogs, rough grasslands, and pastures, this small streaky brown bird, generally inconspicuous, is a familiar sight. When startled, it exhibits a slightly bouncing flight with white sides visible on its tail. Pipits, resembling each other closely, are most accurately distinguished by their habitats and vocalizations. The Meadow Pipit, for instance, emits a distinctive high-pitched, slightly lisping "sip" and "sip-it" (or "pip-it") call.
