Monticola solitarius
4 Photos
A medium-sized bird resembling a thrush, commonly observed in mountainous areas, sea cliffs, quarries, ruins, and urban settings. Male birds are typically striking: those in the west are uniformly dark blue or may appear entirely dark from afar, while eastern males feature blue plumage with orange underparts. Females display a dark brown upper body with delicate barring on the underside. Its long bill, wings, and tail contribute to a unique silhouette distinct from the Rufous-tailed Rock-Thrush. Known for a melodious, blackbird-like song.
