Egyptian Vulture

Neophron percnopterus

4 Photos

Unusual in appearance, the medium-sized vulture features a pale coloration and a striking, bare yellow face that exudes solemnity. Its bill is slender, complete with a distinctive black tip. While flying, its dark, fingered flight feathers sharply contrast with the inner white ones, sometimes reminiscent of the White Stork, yet its wedge-shaped tail sets it apart. Younger birds sport a muddied brown hue with gray facial skin. Thriving in open or semiopen environments, this vulture typically nests on cliffs or occasionally in trees. It scavenges for sustenance at both rubbish dumps and carcasses, although unfortunately, its population is dwindling across its extensive habitat range.
