Tyto alba

This medium-sized owl features a heart-shaped facial disc and deep dark eyes, unique to the Tyto owl species across much of its habitat. Found globally, it displays white-and-black speckling on its upperparts, striking gray-and-tawny wings, and a large round head. The color of its facial disc and underparts ranges from pure white to rusty orange. Active at night, it primarily hunts rodents in open areas using a slow, buoyant flight. During the day, it roosts in various locations like old buildings, tree hollows, caves, and nest boxes. Recognizable by its bone-chilling, rising shriek, this owl is a distinctive presence in its environment.
