Short-eared Owl

This medium-sized owl, often spotted during the day, is more active at dawn and dusk, gliding lazily over open landscapes or marshlands to hunt small mammals. Its appearance ranges widely, with the Galapagos species having the darkest coloring. Sporting a predominantly brown hue, it features a pale belly, streaks, and spots on its wings and chest. Notably, a large light patch near the wingtips stands out during flight. This owl typically remains quiet except at breeding sites, where it emits low hoots and harsh barking sounds.
