Reed Warbler

Acrocephalus scirpaceus

1 Photos

This unassuming, medium-sized warbler is characterized by its warm brown upper plumage, narrow pale spectacles, and pale buffy underparts. Identifying this species can pose a challenge due to similarities with other reed warblers. Primarily found nesting in reed or sedge beds intermingled with bushes, they occasionally venture into adjacent scrublands and thickets. The "Mangrove" Reed Warbler inhabits mangroves along the Red Sea year-round. During migration, these birds explore diverse habitats ranging from marshes to acacia scrub and cultivated areas. Although frequently heard, spotting them proves elusive. Their song, akin to the Sedge Warbler''s but smoother and more melodious, lacks the rough, jerky phrases characteristic of the latter. Distinctive calls include a soft "chuk" and a rattled "chrrt."
