Lesser Whitethroat
Curruca curruca

This small brownish-gray warbler features a grayer head and a wide dark mask highlighting its white throat. It lacks the vivid rusty wing patch seen in the Greater Whitethroat. The species exhibits subtle variations throughout its extensive range. Typically inhabiting scrubby areas, particularly dense hedges with thorny vegetation, it proves elusive and challenging to observe closely. Identification is often aided by its elusive nature and distinctive chortling song, marked by a loud rattle at the end. The bird emits dry ticking calls as well.
