Willow Tit
Poecile montanus
1 Photos
Small and lively resident of coniferous and mixed forests, birch woodlands, willow, and alder scrub. Resembles the Marsh Tit closely, distinguished primarily by its distinct whistled song, especially helpful in western habitats. Willow Tits emit high-pitched calls and scolds with a narrower vocal range compared to Marsh Tits. They prefer scrubbier environments and occasionally frequent feeders. Key identifiers include a pale wing panel (contrasting with the plain wings of the Marsh Tit), a slightly larger and more unkempt black bib, as well as brighter buffy flanks.
