Rook
Corvus frugilegus

This crow, with its glossy black plumage, can be mistaken for other crow species unless you notice the distinct pale patch at the bill''s base. Juveniles lack this feature and resemble Carrion Crows, distinguished by a slightly more tapered bill; the pale bill base emerges in their first winter. Found in farmland and semi-open spaces with hedges and tall trees, it nests in rookeries. Often seen foraging on the ground in groups, this bird readily interacts with crows and jackdaws. Rook calls are higher pitched and less rolling compared to other crow species.
