Great Tit

Parus major

Prominent in woodland, forests, parks, gardens, and farmland hedges, this bird frequents feeders and nests in boxes. Easily identified by white cheeks framed by a black cap and bib, males boast a wider belly stripe than females; juveniles display yellow hues on the face and subdued plumage. Its underparts typically shine yellow, except for the "Turkestan Tit" of Central Asia, distinguished by a white abdomen. Larger and more strikingly marked than the Eurasian Blue Tit, its companion in many regions. Recognize its unique song—a high-pitched, fluctuating “tsee-dee-tsee-dee-tsee-dee”—and scolding chatter.
