Siskin

Spinus spinus

1 Photos

This finch is small, yellowish with wingbars. The male stands out with a yellow face and breast against a black cap and chin patch. Females have a streaky appearance, sometimes with hints of yellow; both sexes display yellow flashes on wings and tails. They reside in mixed woodlands, coniferous forests, parks, gardens, and frequent seed feeders. Often seen in flocks during autumn and winter, congregating where food is abundant. Recognizable by twittering, buzzing vocalizations like nasal "tuohweee" and dry chittering.
