Frequently found in diverse wooded areas, forests, parks, gardens, and farmland with hedges and scattered trees, this bird forms flocks during winter and is a common visitor to garden feeders. The male boasts striking colors, including a bluish cowl, pink face and breast, and a black-and-white wing pattern (which may appear more subdued in winter). In contrast, the female exhibits a more subdued appearance but shares the intricate wing design seen in males. Notably, both genders showcase white outer tail feathers, creating a striking sight when in flight or startled from their perch.
